Are some newspapers stirring up trouble?

According to a controversial front page story by The Sun newspaper this week (duly copied by the Mail Online), a new poll has revealed that nearly one-in-five British Muslims has some sympathy with those who have fled the UK to fight for ISIS in Syria.

The problem with the story is that it's wrong.  Even the organisation that conducted the poll for The Sun, Survation, has had to issue a statement to say that The Sun misinterpreted their survey.  And one of the researchers who helped to conduct the survey has also published an article that The Sun's report was incorrect.

This is a war, but not against Islam

The horrific attacks against innocent people in Paris have shocked and appalled the world. The Islamic extremist terrorist group, ISIS, has admitted ‘responsibility’, and now some are calling for an all-out attack on Islam and all Muslims. That, in my view, would be a terrible mistake.

It’s mostly Muslims who are the victims of ISIS; it’s mostly Muslims who are fighting ISIS; most Muslims in Britain and the rest of the world are strongly against ISIS and similar terrorist groups; the vast majority of Muslims are loyal and upstanding citizens.
